The counterintuitive leader: oversized systems cool the air fast, satisfy the thermostat, and shut off before removing enough moisture — then the humidity drifts back, the air feels warm and clammy, the thermostat calls again, and the cycle repeats in short, humid bursts. Oversizing is everywhere in Florida's building history because contractors sized by rules of thumb, not load calculations.

The paradox result is a system that runs a lot and dehumidifies poorly — the worst of both worlds. The fix is measurement: a Manual J load calculation on the actual house (windows, insulation, orientation) tells you what the equipment should have been. If it's badly oversized, replacement with right-sized equipment fixes the humidity and the runtime together.

Some houses — tight envelopes, big glass, waterfront humidity, or the wrong-sized equipment you're not ready to replace — need dedicated moisture removal regardless of what the AC does.
